I was on the phone with my mom last night.

M:  You did what?
K:  I was hysterically crying so I got into the car and drove The Boy to Derek's office.
M:  You dropped Ethan off at Derek's office?
K:  Uh, yeah.
M:  When he was working?
K:  That's right.
M:  In the middle of the day?
K:  Actually it was 15 minutes before he had to leave work.
M:  Was that OK?
K:  I guess.

Of course it was OK.  When he came out to the car to pick him up, this is how it went down.

D:  Hey, Buddy.
E:  DAAAAAAADDDDDDYYYYY!!!!!!!  Bus! (pointing to the bus).
D:  That's right, that's a bus.  Buddy, were you giving Mom a hard time today?
E:  PeeeeeePPPPPPPPLLLLLLLL, Daddy (pointing to the gaggle of smokers in front of the building).
D:  That's right, Ethan.  Those are people.  Buddy, you have to be nice to Mom.  She loves you.
E:  MOMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAA, Bus!!!! (pointing to another bus).

It was really my fault.  He was just bored all day.  He had been with his cousins all weekend long and then Mom didn't even take him to the park for a 1/2 hour.  There are only so many times you can drive your tricycle around the couch at 37 mph before you just need something else to do.  And Mom saying that she is really tired and needs a nap is silly.  Naps are for babies, not big boys.  And certainly not for Moms.

I felt awful.  Until I looked in my rear view mirror as I drove away and I saw Dad and The Boy walking down the street.  And Dad was wearing that little smirk that said, "that's right.  This is my boy."

Then I went to the mall and finished my shopping in 27 minutes.  All is right with the world.
